How to wash a down comforter

How to wash a goose down comforter

Down comforters are typically filled with goose or duck feathers, which are naturally fluffy—providing great warmth without being heavy. They usually come in light colors and can last for many years with proper care.

Before washing your down comforter, always check the care label. Most down comforters can be safely washed—either by hand or in a machine—though some may not be suitable for machine washing.

Hand wash only

1.Submerge only the soiled area in water mixed with a down comforter-safe detergent or mild liquid soap. Let it soak for 10–15 minutes.

2.Use a soft brush to lightly clean the down comforter stained spot. Avoid harsh scrubbing.

3.Squeeze out the soapy water—never wring or twist the down comforter, as this can damage the down clusters.

4.For extra detergent removal, briefly soak the area in water with a splash of white vinegar, then squeeze out gently.

Can be machine washed

1.Place the comforter in the washing machine and use the delicate cycle with a mild detergent.

2.Transfer it to the dryer and run on low heat. You may need to dry it in multiple cycles to ensure it’s completely dry.

3.Once fully dry, give it a few good shakes or pats to restore its loft and softness.

Tips of wash down comforter

Avoid dry cleaning your down comforter. The chemicals can strip the down’s natural warmth and cause the fabric to wear out faster, shortening the comforter’s lifespan.

To cut down on maintenance, we highly recommend using a duvet cover with your down comforter. It acts as a protective layer, so if stains happen, you can simply remove and wash the duvet cover, keeping your down comforter clean with much less hassle.
